About Ms. Edwards

Although I grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia, I spent my summers here in Greenville, North Carolina and moved here permanently in 1987.  I graduated magna cum laude with General Honors and University Honors with a BA in Political Science from East Carolina University in 1997.  In 2000, I received my JD (law degree) from the University of North Carolina School of Law and joined the firm formerly known as Mattox, Davis & Edwards, P.A., doing what I enjoy so much, family law.

In 2011,
I was designated a Certified Family Law Specialist by the North Carolina Board of Legal Specialization, a designation made by the Board only after an extensive peer review process and the successful completion of a test similar to the bar exam but specifically in the area of family law.  I am the President and member attorney of The Collaborative Divorce Association of Eastern Carolina, a practice group of attorneys who promote collaborative family law.  I am also a member of the Family Law Section of the NC Bar Association, the Pitt County Bar Association, and IACP, which is the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.

In 2014, I became a VA accredited attorney by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs in order to represent veterans who are filing disability claims based on injuries or illnesses that either appeared while on active duty, or were aggravated by their military duties.  On a pro bono basis, I represent veterans through referrals from an American Bar Association program known as the VCAN, which is the Veterans’ Claim Assistance Network, a program created in response to the huge backlog of disability claims by veterans.  For years, I have been a volunteer attorney with Operation Stand-By, a program managed by the American Bar Association’s Military Pro Bono Project.  Volunteer attorneys who participate in Operation Stand-By assist military attorneys with state-specific expertise in the type of law they practice.
